Norwegian America Line & Maritime Exhibition

Jahn Thore Rygh has put together a unique exhibition about the Norwegian America Line which will be exhibited at Havnegaten 29 (Brøvigbygget) in Kaperuka.

The exhibition is the result of several years of effort from Jahn-Thore Rygh, who has collected objects, uniforms and memories related to life aboard the Amerikalinjen ships – inspired, among other things, by his own father, who was chief engineer on the M/S "Vistafjord".

Jahn Thore Rygh will be present and will be able to talk about the collection.

Jahn Thore is grateful to Ingrid and Endre Glastad for making the Brøvig building available for this exhibition.

Many people from our region have a relationship with one or more of the ships belonging to the Norwegian America Line, NAL. In the 1950s, 60s and early 1970s.

The American ships "Stavangerfjord", "Oslofjord", "Bergensfjord" and "Sagafjord" transported Norwegians who wanted to find happiness in America with well-paid jobs.

The Norwegian America Line (NAL) was a Norwegian shipping company that operated passenger traffic between Norway and the United States from 1913 to 1971. Among the most famous ships were: D/S Kristianiafjord (1913), D/S Bergensfjord (1913), D/S Stavangerfjord (1918), M/S Oslofjord (1949), M/S Bergensfjord (1956), M/S Sagafjord (1965) and M/S Vistafjord (1973)
