Iron grip on Fern Sunde's place

Kaperuka gets its own variation of "Jerngrep", a well-known exercise from the TV series Mesternes Mester. The iron rod is replaced with rope.

- Two and two will compete at a time. We take the time of everyone who tries. Whoever hangs the longest runs away with the first prize, says Øystein Mikalsen, and shows off the rope together with Maria Benedikte Tønnessen Ystgaard.

Einar Øgrey Farsund wants to create a construction that will make it possible to stretch the rope over the water in the innermost part of the bay at Fern Sunde's place outside Backes Bu.

- This activity will be open to everyone all day. The only thing we require is that you find someone to hang out with, says Mikalsen.

- Which characteristics do you think are important to do well in "iron grip"?

- This is primarily about willpower. But there is no disadvantage in being light in the body. Therefore, it is not a given that an adult will win. Children are often tougher than adults when it comes to such exercises. The only thing that is certain is that the competition will end in the sea - regardless of the age of the participants, says Mikalsen.

For the record, we can mention that Nils Jakob Hoff holds the record in the "iron grip" exercise in the Master of Masters with five minutes and 24 seconds.

During Kaperuka, BUA will offer a number of water-related activities at Fern Sundes plass.

- Our subject tag is "wet fun". We hope more people will open their eyes to all the fun we have at BUA, says Mikalsen.

The activities will be available every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing, BUA will offer short boat trips and fishing with magnets and regular rods. BUA also runs a daily gigasup regatta.
